Wicked Weather Thrashes Parts Of N.J., Westchester

Many New Jersey and Westchester residents are waking up to power outages along with the sounds of chain saws Thursday morning after the night's violent weather.
Not a twister – but the latest powerful storm to tear through the region zeroed in on New Jersey.
"It was intense," said Jim Domm, Englewood resident. "It was intense. A lot of thunder."
Several large trees were brought down in Bergen County, forcing police to close several streets.
"A lot of power outages, trees down," said Anthony Hampton, Englewood resident. "Buses being diverted in different directions."
In Bergenfield, police are trying to determine if dangerous road conditions caused the driver of a black sedan to crash into a building on Washington Avenue.
"Unfortunately, we gotta deal with nature, the beauty of it and the ugly side of it sometimes," said Moses Valdez of Union City.
PSE&G reported as many as 20,000 customer without power overnight, and those storm related outages spread beyond the Garden State, even affecting residents in Westchester County.
"The lights flickered," said Rachel Karpeles, Larchmont resident. "And then they went out."
There are still 300 customers without power in Westchester.
PSE&G said Thursday afternoon that 900 customers are still without power, down from 20,000 Wednesday night.
In central New Jersey, JCP&L says 675 customers are still offline.
