Vigil Held In Stamford For Navy SEAL Killed In Afghanistan
STAMFORD, CT (CBS 2) -- A vigil was held to remember a local victim of last week's deadly helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
Dozens of mourners gathered outside Trinity Catholic High School in Stamford on Saturday. Friends and family held a candlelight vigil for 31-year-old Brian Bill.
The Navy SEAL was among 30 US service members killed when insurgents shot down their helicopter eight days ago.
Bill was a 1997 graduate of Trinity High.
His family said he wanted to return to graduate school after completing his military service and hoped to become an astronaut. He was also a mountaineer, a skier, a pilot and tri-athlete.
Bill had just been promoted to Chief Petty Officer when he lost his life in Saturday's helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
President Barack Obama honored Brian and his fallen colleagues.
Bill had been a Navy SEAL since 2003.
