Video Of Unmasked Gas Station Robbery Suspect Leads To Arrest In Westchester
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police say they've arrested the masked man who robbed two service stations in Westchester County.
Authorities said the man bought gas without his mask on and was caught on surveillance video.
A tipster who saw the video on TV called Westchester County police Wednesday night and said he recognized the man. Police arrested 40-year-old John Allen of Hastings-on-Hudson. He was charged with two federal counts of robbery.
The robberies happened March 1 in Thornwood and Elmsford. The clerk who was victimized in the second robbery told police he thought the robber in the ski mask was the same man who had purchased gas and gum minutes earlier.
Police then circulated the videos of the robberies and the gas purchase.
