Stratford School Dedicated In Honor Of Slain Newtown Teacher
STRATFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- A Connecticut school is being dedicated in honor of a teacher who died in the Newtown school massacre.
Victoria Soto taught first grade at Sandy Hook Elementary School. She was among 26 students and educators killed in the Dec. 14, 2012 shooting.
Soto's hometown of Stratford has renamed the Honeyspot House School "Victoria Soto School."
"Today is the first day of school in Newtown. Vicki would plan for weeks and set up her classroom to perfection. Her bulletin board would be up and I am sure new books in the cubbies. She would have been so excited to meet her 'kids.' Life is not fair," her mother, Donna Soto, wrote on Facebook Thursday.
The 27-year-old teacher died trying to shield her students from gunman Adam Lanza when he opened fire at the school. Eleven students in her classroom survived.
