Surveillance Cameras Coming To Rockland Veterans Cemetery After Flowers Stolen From Graves
SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Surveillance cameras will be installed after floral arrangements were stolen from graves at a veterans cemetery in Rockland County.
One Army veteran's grave was victimized twice at the Frederick Loescher Veterans Cemetery, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.
"The people who are buried in that cemetery offered their lives in combat to protect our way of life and our ability to have freedom," Veterans Service Agency Director Jerry Donnellan said, adding that they deserve dignity and respect. "In the past these things didn't happen, there was more respect for the dead."
The Rockland County executive has given Donnellan the green light to install surveillance cameras.
"They've discussed cameras that would have a 30-day loop on them, so that if something was reported we can go back, and look at the tape, and see if we could find the person, and then prosecute them," Donnellan said.
Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski has proposed making it a felony to desecrate the grave of a veteran.
