Veteran Official Becomes New GM For NJ Transit Buses
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey Transit's acting vice president and general manager of bus operations now has the permanent title.
The agency's Board of Directors recently approved Joyce Gallagher's appointment. She's been overseeing the nation's second-largest fleet of buses since December, managing a statewide bus network of more than 240 routes in nearly 400 towns.
Gallagher previously served as NJ Transit's chief of contracted services, directing the Americans with Disabilities Act Services division. She's also held leadership positions with the agency's bus and light rail divisions.
Gallagher joined NJ Transit in 1980 as a project manager on a task force responsible for restructuring interstate bus service in Passaic County. She later became deputy general manager of Southern Division bus operations, responsible for five garage locations and three major terminals in South Jersey.
