Police were called to the scene after an altercation broke out just before halftime Wednesday during the varsity boys soccer game between White Plains and New Rochelle.
New Rochelle-White Plains Soccer Game Ends With Arrest
A New Rochelle player, who has not been identified because of his age, has been charged with third-degree assault for allegedly punching an opponent, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.
The White Plains player, identified as junior Ozzie Escobedo, needed surgery for a broken jaw, the Journal News reported.
The game was called and both athletic departments postponed both their varsity and junior varsity girls soccer games, which were scheduled for Thursday.
This is not the first time there's been friction on the field this season.
A few weeks ago, a Yonkers player was suspended for 16 games for allegedly pushing a referee.
