1 Dead, 2 Hurt After Shooting On Van Wyck Service Road In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An investigation was underway Sunday after authorities say three people were shot, one fatally, on a Van Wyck Expressway service road in Queens.
Police say someone opened fire on the occupants of a Mercedes SUV stopped near the intersection of 135th Street and 135th Avenue in South Ozone Park shortly after 5 a.m.
After taking fire, authorities say the occupants drove to the NYPD's 69th Precinct in Canarsie. They were then rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where a 51-year-old man was pronounced dead with a gunshot wound to the head.
The man who was killed was identified as Sherwood Beverly of Brooklyn.
Authorities say the other two victims were also shot but are expected to recover.
One of the surviving victims, a 50-year-old woman, suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder. Meanwhile, a 50-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the neck, police said.
It wasn't immediately clear if the victims were shot in a drive-by or if the shooter walked up to them before opening fire.
No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
