Van, Truck Strike And Kill Man On Canal Street In SoHo
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Saturday were investigating an accident that killed a man along Canal Street on the southern cusp of SoHo.
Around 2:30 p.m. Friday, police found Mbaye Cheikh, 23, lying unconscious and unresponsive at Canal and Greene streets.
Police said Cheikh, of Harlem, had been crossing Canal Street from the south side to the north, when he was struck by a westbound Ford Econoline van.
The van threw him into the middle lane, where a semi-tractor trailer – also headed west on Canal Street – also hit him, police said.
Both drivers remained at the scene, police said. There was no indication of whether charges or traffic tickets were expected.
The investigation was ongoing, police said.
