Valley Stream High School Defaced By Vandals
Nassau County police are investigating a case of vandalism at a high school in Valley Stream that took place early Friday morning.
Authorities say vandals broke into Valley Stream South High School, located at 150 Jedwood Place, around 2 a.m. and used spray paint to graffiti three floors of the building.
School officials say the damage -- which is estimated to be up to $20,000 -- featured vulgar language directed at faculty and staff members in addition to the spray painting of a swastika. Police officials say several fire extinguishers were also discharged inside the school.
Summer classes had to be postponed as painters arrived to begin the cleanup.
Classes are expected to resume on Monday, school officials said.
Authorities believe current or former students are responsible for the break-in and video surveillance from the school could help police catch the culprits, according to 1010 WINS reporter Terry Sheridan.
Police are requesting anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
