Woman Stabbed Several Times In UES; Suspect Accused Of Attacking Co-Workers Afterward

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A man was charged with stabbing a woman on the Upper East Side Monday, and going on to attack two co-workers.

Police alleged the suspect, identified as Trevial Terry, 40, traveled 49 blocks to attack his co-workers at a Con Edison facility -- using an axe and a hammer -- after allegedly stabbing the woman.

Terry was charged late Monday with three counts of attempted murder, six counts of assault, and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

The woman was stabbed at around 2:30 p.m. at 63rd Street and Lexington Avenue -- the building where convicted Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff once lived, CBS2's Scott Rapoport reported.

The 36-year-old woman was stabbed several times -- multiple times in the back and abdomen -- Rapoport and 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.

Police told WCBS 880's Jim Smith it was a domestic incident.

Police said the woman who works for the Jewish Foundation for Education of Women located in the building was stabbed by a man she was in a relationship with and who is also the father of her child, Rapoport reported.

Police say they had been locked in a court battle that was contentious and ultimately lead to bloodshed, Rapoport reported.

The woman was rushed to NewYork Presbyterian/Weill-Cornell Medical Center in serious, but stable condition. Her injuries are considered to be non life-threatening, police told Smith.

News of a stabbing and the sight of a heavy police presence rocked this traditionally safe and well-heeled neighborhood.

"It's horrible. It's the middle of the day and there are people around. People shouldn't be getting stabbed in the middle of the day in Manhattan," said Upper East Side resident Cathy Kramer.

"Doorman told me that the guy ran inside with the knife … stabbed the woman and then ran away," said witness Valentin Boros.

Boros told Rapoport she was being carried by two paramedics and that he was struck by the amount of blood that he saw.

Another shaken onlooker said, "This is not supposed to happen here," Rapoport reported.

Meanwhile around 2:40 p.m., police alleged the suspect walked into the Con Edison headquarters at 4 Irving Pl. near 14th Street, and went up to the 10th floor. Upon arriving, he was met by a 49-year-old man, police said.

The suspect swung an axe and struck the man in the face, police alleged.

A third man, 40, tried to come to the injured man's aid, but he was struck by the suspect with a pointed-tip hammer, police said.

The suspect then tried to run downstairs into the parking lot, but he was arrested on the spot, police said.

Terry was taken to Bellevue Hospital Center for a medical evaluation after being arrested, police sources said.

The victims from Con Edison were also hospitalized, police said. Their conditions were reported as stable.

The suspect has worked for Con Ed for 15 years, sources told CBS2.

Terry has two prior arrests, including assaulting the victim in a previous incident in 2009, police sources said.
