Suspect Under Arrest In Death Of Upper East Side Man Found Lying In Pool Of Blood
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A suspect is under arrest in the death of a man found lying in a pool of blood inside his Upper East Side apartment.
Police say 24-year-old Alex Ray Scott, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, killed 64-year-old Kenneth Savinski earlier this week.
Sources say Scott turned himself in to investigators Thursday and was charged with murder, grand larceny and possession of stolen property. Sources say Scott made incriminating statements and had the victim's credit cards.
Savinski was found with a gash on his forehead inside his living room Wednesday near 83rd Street and Lexington Avenue.
Police initially thought he might have fallen, but there was no furniture or other objects near him that would've caused the cut.
Sources told CBS2's Alice Gainer a friend went to check on Savinski because he hadn't heard from him in a while and made the grisly discovery.
"Kept to himself. He would come home from work, drop his bag off, go up to church at 5:30, come home at 10 after 6," neighbor Charles Franck told CBS2. "You'd see him in the neighborhood. You'd see him always friendly, always kind, always waved, a beautiful man."
Scott and Savinski recently met after the suspect arrived from the Midwest. The nature of their relationship is unclear at this point.
