Police: Suspect Arrested In Sexual Assault, Robbery On Upper East Side
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD has arrested a man in connection with the alleged sexual assault and robbery of a woman on the Upper East Side.
According to investigators, Gregory Anderson, 32, of Manhattan, grabbed the 36-year-old victim from behind and threw her to the ground after she crossed 2nd Avenue. Anderson then forced her to walk further down the block, stole $40 and groped her, according to police.
After an apparent moment of guilt, he tried to give the money back to her and said that he felt bad, allegedly saying, "Have a nice day."
The woman then ran to a nearby store, where she called police.
Surveillance footage shows Anderson walk into the same store less than a minute later, where he claimed to be looking for his wife, police said.
Anderson was arrested on Wednesday and faces charges of first-degree robbery and sex abuse.
According to police, Anderson has a prior arrest in 2014 for drinking in public.
