Bags Of Undelivered Mail Found At Long Island Home
BELLMORE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Postal police found bags of undelivered mail at a Long Island home Tuesday.
Postal police served a warrant at the home on West Alder Road in Bellmore.
They were seen carting out numerous garbage bags filled with undelivered mail - almost enough to fill a truck. Authorities say they pulled dozens of bags full of mail from the property.
It wasn't immediately clear how long the mail has been at the home.
Neighbors believe the man who lives in the home appears to be in his 30s or 40s. Law enforcement sources say there have been allegations of mail being mishandled and missing from the area.
Many say they're concerned about what could happen if their mail was in the mix.
The Office of Inspector General says victims should reach out to a special hotline at 1-888-USPSOIG (877-7644)
No arrests have been made, but the inspector general says charges can be filed in the future after a review of items found in the bags.
