UConn Women's Basketball Team To Hold 'Victory Lap' Around Campus After Winning Title
STORRS, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The UConn women's basketball team is planning a "victory lap" around the Storrs campus after winning another national championship.
The Huskies are set to arrive at Bradley International Airport at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and give brief remarks before returning to campus. The team will then ride around campus in an open-air, double-decker bus accompanied by the UConn pep band and cheerleaders beginning at about 5:15 p.m.
The celebration will conclude with speeches by coach Geno Auriemma and players at Fairfield Way Plaza near the Student Union.
The victory lap will replace rallies held at Gampel Pavilion after previous championship wins. It's not clear if a parade will be held in Hartford like in past years.
UConn beat Louisville 93-60 Tuesday night for the team's eighth national title. UConn's previous national championships came in 1995, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009 and 2010.
