UConn Scholarship Fund In Honor Of Newtown Massacre Victims Pulls In Nearly $500K In A Week
STORRS, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Donations and messages of condolence continue to pour into Newtown, Conn. 10 days after a school shooting rampage left 20 first-graders and six school officials dead.
The University of Connecticut announced donations of nearly half a million dollars to its Sandy Hook School Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund began on Dec. 17, just days after the massacre.

UConn said more than 3,000 donors have given a combined $475,000 to the fund honoring the victims of the massacre.
The fund supports college costs for siblings of those killed in the Dec. 14 rampage, dependents of the adults who were killed, and students who are enrolled at the elementary school and are accepted to attend UConn.
More than 2,200 students, parents, alumni and others have used the UConn Foundation's online giving site to make donations as large as $5,000. Others have collected contributions at holiday parties.
UConn said the donations are still coming in.
Another fundraising effort set up to support victims' families, My Sandy Hook Family Fund, has a goal to raise $2.6 million by the end of January.
