U.S. Sen. Blumenthal Proposing Lyme Disease Legislation

HARTFORD,CT (WCBS 880) -- In the midst of summer, a U.S. senator from Connecticut is introducing a timely piece of legislation.

The middle of summer is when incidences of Lyme disease are at their height, says Senator Richard Blumenthal.

That's why he's proposing legislation that would provide the resources necessary for better reporting and treatment of the disease.

It's a cause close to Blumenthal's heart.

"The reason for my advocacy of Lyme goes back to my very earliest days as attorney general when I met and saw people whose lives have been damaged forever by Lyme," he said.

Senator Blumenthal expects the legislation to help fill the gap in Connecticut where just last week, Governor Dan Malloy cut funding and made layoffs to the state agricultural station charged with tracking and researching Lyme disease.
