Two Suspects Plead Not Guilty In Death Of New York City Violinist
NEW YORK(AP) -- Two men have pleaded not guilty to state charges stemming from the slaying of a New York City violinist who was killed at her upstate summer home last year.
Local media report that 43-year-old Jonathan Conklin and 30-year-old Charles Sanford pleaded not guilty Monday in a Chautauqua County court to charges that include second-degree murder, burglary, robbery and grand larceny.
Both remain in federal custody with bail set at $1 million cash.
The men pleaded not guilty in September to federal carjacking charges related to the shooting death of 61-year-old Mary Whitaker of Manhattan.
Authorities say Conklin and Sanford killed her Aug. 20 during a robbery at her summer residence in Westfield, 55 miles southwest of Buffalo. She spent summers performing in the orchestra at the nearby Chautauqua Institution and also performed with the Westchester Philharmonic.
