Rush On For Repairs On George Washington Bridge After Concrete Crumbles
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The nightmarish commute for drivers heading into New York City on the George Washington Bridge could extend into the Tuesday morning rush hour.
Two lanes on the upper deck of the inbound side were shut down Monday afternoon after a 4-foot-by-4-foot section of concrete crumbled, exposing a beam below. One lower level lane was also shut down.
Emergency crews were working overnight to repair the bridge. The Port Authority has set a 5 a.m. deadline for completing the repairs. However, officials warn that lengthy delays are still likely in the morning and recommend that motorists take the Lincoln or Holland tunnels or the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Drivers experienced up to 90-minute delays Monday evening.
Motorists seemed to take the delays in stride.
"I work there, so I have to go through even if it's traffic," driver Ali Hussain told CBS 2's Dave Carlin. "I mean, I have no other choice."
"I'm not happy," said Kerry Escamilla, of Astoria, Queens. "I come over this bridge every single day."
