Two FDNY Vehicles Salvaged From Ground Zero Heading To New Home In Virginia
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Powerful artifacts from the Sept. 11 terror attacks have started on a somber journey to their new permanent home.
Two New York City Fire Department vehicles salvaged from the World Trade Center site have been stored in Hangar 17 at John F. Kennedy International Airport for more than 10 years.

On Wednesday morning a damaged fire engine from Squad 252 and an FDNY sedan were loaded on flatbed trucks to be transported to the Pentagon in Arlington, Va. where they will be on display for a short time.
The vehicles will then head to their final home at the future National Museum of Americans in Wartime in Prince William County, Va.
The museum, which is currently under construction and slated to open on Veteran's Day 2014, will also receive a piece of steel from the North Tower's parking garage.
Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye said artifacts from ground zero have been delivered to all 50 states and seven other nations to make sure the tragic lessons of 9/11 are never forgotten.
