TTYM: Tebow's New Gig, Tyson's Tirade And McIlroy's Major Miss
More Columns here.
So, in case you didn’t notice, the Ray Rice elevator video release dominated news this week, but life and drama in the sports world did go on.
Here are the top six you may have missed this week.
1. One Giant Letdown
In what was almost the biggest disaster in the NFL this week, the Giants got thrown to the, ‘er well, Lions losing 14-35 in the season opener.
Quarterback Eli Manning threw two picks and fans are hoping he doesn’t match – or break -- last year’s record of 27 interceptions.
And in case you’re wondering, no, two Super Bowl rings isn’t enough.
2. Golf or Pocket Pool?
And just when I started to root for Rory McIlroy, he makes an ageist statement about how the Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods are so old they’re “at the last few holes of their career.”
That. hurt.
Well Rory, at least they keep their balls out of other people’s pockets.
3. Tim Tebow Burgandy
No stranger to NFL controversy himself, Tim Tebow has a new job. No, not as an NFL quarterback. As a weekly contributor to Good Morning America’s new “Motivate Me” segments.
Twitter wasn’t kind.
4. What Would Tim Tebow Do?

And speaking of not being very kind on social media, Tebow mocked SEC co-worker Paul Finebaum when he caught him snoozing. Tebow snapped a photo of him taking a nap and posted it on Instagram with the hashtag #FinebaumING.
Oh, so you’re a comedian now too, Tim?
5. Iron Mike
(Warning: Video contains inappropriate language)
And Mike Tyson's love of pigeons and one-man show may have endeared him to audiences as of late, but the "Baddest Man On The Planet" is baaaaack.
Tyson delivered an expletive-filled rant to a Canadian television anchor during a live interview when the host insinuated the former boxer's rape conviction could hurt the reputation of scandal-plagued Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.
Frankly, what I find infinitely more offensive, are the tremendous graphics eating up the entire screen. You can’t make the lower-third just a little smaller Canada? What is every one blind in your country?
6. Struck Out
Miami Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton was rushed to the hospital Thursday night after getting slammed by a fastball from Brewers' pitcher Mike Fiers. Stanton has multiple faciat fractures, dental damage and cuts after getting struck during the 4-2 loss to the Brewers.
But, ya wanna know what the worst part is? After the accident, they didn't even give the Marlins a base.
