Landmine Casings Packed With Shrapnel Found In Woman's Suitcase At Newark Airport
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Transportation Security Administration announced yet another head-scratching find at Newark Liberty Airport.
Explosive experts were called in to investigate after the woman's suitcase set off alarms Tuesday morning in Terminal C during the screening process, the TSA said.
Inside the suitcase were three small Claymore landmine casings and two of the three were packed with shrapnel, the TSA said. The agency said no explosives or detonator were found in the bag.
The woman from Union, NJ told officials that she was attending an explosives demonstration.
Claymore mines discharge steel fragments and were widely used during the Vietnam War.
While she wasn't allowed to board with the devices, she was allowed to rebook her trip to San Francisco after missing her original flight.
