Trucker Rocco Scuiletti Charged In Kerry Kennedy Auto Crash
NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The driver of the truck struck by the ex-wife of Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it.
Rocco Scuiletti of Poughkeepsie was driving on Interstate 684 near Bedford when he was struck by Kerry Kennedy's Lexus on Friday.
She has pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving while drug-impaired. Kennedy said doctors believe the accident was caused by a seizure stemming from an old brain injury.
"I remember getting on the highway and then I have no memory until I was stopped at a traffic light and a police officer was at my car door," Kennedy told reporters after her arraignment on Tuesday.
Kennedy continued driving after the accident until her car became disabled, authorities said. Police also allege that Kennedy failed a standing-on-one-leg test and a walk-and-turn test, according to court papers.
Kennedy however, said that no alcohol, recreational or prescription drugs were found in her system after testing.
Her spokesman, Ken Sunshine, said she voluntarily took Breathalyzer and that charges were filed before the test results were available.
Scuiletti spoke with CBS 2 and said he has a vivid memory of what happened.
"She drifted over once, I moved over for her, and she drifted over twice and collided with me," he said.
Investigators have now charged Scuiletti with leaving the scene without reporting the crash, according to a report in the Journal News.
Kennedy faces a fine, loss of driving privileges and possible jail time if convicted. The judge also ordered Kennedy to be evaluated by a state agency that will monitor her treatments.
Kennedy separated from Cuomo in 2003. They divorced in 2005 and have three daughters.
