Storm Blamed For At Least 2 Deaths In Tri-State Area
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Wednesday's nor'easter is being blamed for at least two deaths across the Tri-State area.
Barbara Suleski, 88, of Suffern, New York, was killed when a tree fell on her while she was standing in her driveway.
It happened around 5 p.m. on Hillside Avenue. Responding officers found her underneath a large a tree, as two other people tried to help her.
Police said she was removed from under the tree and taken to a hospital, where she later died.
"It's my mom. Very strong woman, very headstrong," her son Michael told CBS2's Hazel Sanchez. "(She) wanted to shovel, you know help out with the sweeping away from her sidewalk. She couldn't get out of the way of that, and it's a tragedy."
"The whole family's heartbroken," he added.
Around 9 a.m. Thursday, Anthony Gonzalez, of Wanaque, New Jersey, was electrocuted after he apparently drove around police barriers where there were fallen power lines. His car then erupted into flames.
It happened at the intersection of Route 208 and Summit Avenue in Franklin Lakes.
