Trenton Mayor Tony Mack Names New Acting Police Director
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Jersey's capital city has a new top cop for the 4th time in 15 months.
Trenton Mayor Tony Mack named Capt. David Armitage acting police director on Tuesday. Armitage replaces Sgt. Chris Doyle, who became acting director six weeks ago as the cash-strapped city laid off one-third of its police force.
Doyle told The Times of Trenton the change was news to him.
Mack says the city council is to blame for failing to appoint a permanent police director even though the mayor has nominated two veteran state troopers for the position.
Trenton has used federal money to rehire 18 officers since the layoffs of 105 officers in August.
