Trenton Mayor Cancels Police, Firefighter Layoffs
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Trenton's mayor has canceled plans to lay off 255 city workers, including 111 police positions and 61 firefighters.
Mayor Tony Mack said Thursday that public safety is too important to put at risk.
The mayor also said he plans to retain most of the city's sanitation workers.
Mack's announcement comes a day after a homeless man was stabbed outside City Hall in a dispute over $2.
New Jersey's capital city is facing a $55 million budget deficit.
