Some Rail Service Still Recovering From Snowstorm
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Metro-North is operating on a modified schedule into and out of Grand Central Terminal Wednesday as it recovers from the snowstorm.
The railroad said it will have some combined and cancelled trains. It said customers should expect some crowds and delays.
Metro-North had suspended service at noon Tuesday, but restored limited service in the evening.
About a dozen riders were waiting on the platform in Tarrytown early Wednesday morning for the first post-storm train into the city, 1010 WINS' John Montone reported.
"It's just crazy how fast they could get it up and running between the ice and snow. It's just amazing," said Joe from Rockland. "It was only one day, big storm, and they're already up and running again."
In Connecticut, riders faced icy conditions as they waited for trains in the cold early Wednesday morning.
"It's very dangerous to walk, but I did my best," a commuter named Maria told WCBS 880's Paul Murnane
Meanwhile, subway express service resumed at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Trains had been running local service only. PATH and Long Island Rail Road trains are running on or close to schedule.
NJ TRANSIT rail service is running on a Presidents Day schedule with system wide delays of up to 15 minutes in both directions.
"That means there is more service than the weekend schedule, but not yet a full weekday schedule," spokesman Jim Smith told 1010 WINS. "Our light rail systems are all back to a full weekday schedule."
Buses are on a regular schedule with possible delays and detours.
Cross-honoring is in effect.
