Transit Authorities Advise Of Possible Storm-Related Service Changes
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The approaching nor'easter that is poised to deal a potentially paralyzing blow to the Tri-State Area has local transit authorities making some changes and preparing their customers for worst-case scenarios.
LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD
The LIRR will provide eight extra trains to assist customers heading home early Friday afternoon, in advance of the pending snowstorm.
The extra service will be between 2:09 PM and 3:48 PM, with extra trains on the Babylon, Port Jefferson, Port Washington and Far Rockaway Branches.
Additionally, one Port Jefferson train will originate from Jamaica instead of Huntington.
The LIRR said that if snow accumulations reach between 10 to 13 inches, it may have to suspend service for the safety of customers and to give crews a chance to clear snow from the tracks and third rail.

METRO-NORTH
There will be extra trains during the early afternoon to help customers return home. The schedule change means there will be reduced service during the PM peak.
Train combinations and cancellations are possible at any time, but increase in likelihood as the evening progresses to prevent trains from becoming stranded during the storm.
Service plans by time period follow:
- Metro-North will operate a regular schedule until 12 p.m.
- Between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m., Metro-North will operate a revised schedule.
Metro-North Spokesman Aaron Donovan told WCBS 880 it's possible that trains may need to be suspended as the storm progresses, particularly after 8 p.m.

AMTRAK
In preparation for the winter storm expected to impact the Northeast this weekend, Amtrak is adjusting some service beginning Friday.
Due to the large amount of snowfall and high winds forecast to hit the region starting Friday, Amtrak is reducing service on its Acela Express and Northeast Regional routes between New York and Boston.

NJ TRANSIT
On Friday and Saturday, NJT will offer system-wide cross-honoring on (rail, bus, light rail) due to expected winter weather conditions.
The transit agency is also encouraging customers to consider traveling early on Friday due to the expected impact on the evening commute.

The Port Authority said it will deploy extra workers at all of its facilities. Any service changes or disruptions will be made available on its website or on Twitter.
