Jimmy DeCrescenzo, 50, made a lot of friends in the years he worked at the laundromat on Stillwater Avenue.
His murder in the predawn hours of June 26 left his friends stunned and saddened. He was beaten and strangled.
Now, police have charged two Mexican transients with the crime. Neither have a local address or a job.
Capt. Richie Conklin told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau that DeCrescenzo's life was wiped out because these two sought to win approval of a gang they wanted to join.
"They wanted the gang to notice them and, you know, take notice of them and approve them of as maybe future members of that gang," he told Schneidau.
Now the two men, Ivan Silva-Perez, 20, and Elmer Saenz-Machado, 35, face felony murder, first-degree robbery, and conspiracy charges.
Conklin said given the fact that they are transients, the bond on the two will remain high.
