Trade Deadline Comes And Goes, Tebow Still A Jet
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Thursday's NFL trade deadline has come and gone. Backup New York Jets' quarterback Tim Tebow was rumored to join the Jacksonville Jaguars, but no deal came to fruition.
The NFL trade deadline passed at 4 p.m. on Thursday without Tebow changing addresses.
Jets' team sources downplayed the chances of the team moving Tebow when rumors of a trade emerged earlier this week. It was believed that the Jaguars wished to acquire Tebow to boost their struggling attendance and raise their profile.
The Jaguars were interested in acquiring Tebow during the offseason before the Jets landed Tebow from the Denver Broncos in a March trade.
His arrival in New York drew megastar attention, but Tebow has played a very limited role in his first year with the Jets. Still, owner Woody Johnson believes Tebow will be with the organization for three years and described him as "a valuable asset."
Tebow has only attempted 3 total passes in the 2012 NFL season. He has rushed 78 yards on 23 attempts for an average of 3.4 yards. His 2012 average per carry is 2 yards less than his 2011 rushing average with the Broncos.
