Track Problems Lead To Major Delays On Multiple NJ TRANSIT Lines

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Some NJ TRANSIT lines were subjected to major delays during the Friday evening rush.

Early Friday evening, one NJ TRANSIT train operator reported a "bumpy" ride through a tunnel. Amtrak then took two of the tracks out of service to inspect, and make some minor repairs to the track.

CHECK: Service Updates

During the period when the tracks were out of service, NJ TRANSIT Northeast Corridor, New Jersey Coast Line, and MidTown trains were subjected to delays of 45 to 60 minutes into and out of Penn Station.

The delays prompted a tweet from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

The tracks had been fixed and service resumed by about 7:45 p.m., but the delays continued for some time afterward.

By 9:30 p.m., trains were again running close to schedule.
