Town To Install Bullet-Tracking Technology Near Bellport Train Station
BELLPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The high tech crime fighting tool known as ShotSpotter is coming to North Bellport.
The town is planning to install 16 sensors in the area of the Bellport train station. The devices are designed to help police pinpoint where and when gunshots are fired.

WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs spoke with local businesswoman Corey Bloom in the business district surrounding the train station about the technology.
"I think it's a great idea. I mean this is a bad area. Anywhere over the tracks is dangerous. People don't like to even go over there," she said.
"It affects everything. It affects people don't want to live out here. People don't want to come out here," she added. "It will definitely lift the community.
The sensors are being installed in an area where redevelopment is planned.
"I think it will help a lot. It will bring people over here. A lot of people don't come over here because they're afraid," Bloom said.
