Torre Returns To MLB In New Role
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Joe spent last season in a role handling Major League Baseball's discipline. He left the job to form a group that attempted to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers but was unsuccessful.
Now, Torre is back with a new role working for the MLB as their Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations. Commissioner Bud Selig made an announcement on MLB.com on Friday:
"Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced today that Joe Torre has rejoined Major League Baseball as Executive Vice President for Baseball Operations … Torre originally joined Major League Baseball in February of 2011, overseeing areas that include Major League Operations, Umpiring, On-Field Operations and On-Field Discipline. In the capacity to which he is returning, Torre serves as the Office of the Commissioner's primary liaison to the general managers and field managers of the 30 Major League Clubs regarding all baseball and on-field matters."
Torre told MLB.com: "I am very excited to come back to the Commissioner's Office. This is a great era for Major League Baseball, and it's an honor to work with the Commissioner and to play a part in the game's future. Collectively, we will continue to examine ways that we can make baseball better for our fans, Clubs and players."
