Tornado Touches Down In Manorville, Long Island
MANORVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - We're getting a look Tuesday at some damage done by Monday night's storms in the Tri-State Area that spun off a tornado in Suffolk County.
The EF-0 tornado touched down on Dayton Street and continued on through Rosewood and South streets in Manorville, tearing the tops off trees and knocking down power lines.
EF-0 tornadoes have winds between 65 and 85 miles per hour. Nonetheless it caused extensive damage. Not only did the tornado knock down an entire row of trees, it destroyed a fence and sent patio furniture flying into one family's pool.
The tornado touched down 4:30 p.m. Monday. It sheared large tree limbs and tops off of dozens of oak, maple and pine trees as well as at least a dozen shallow-rooted trees.
According to the National Weather Service, the tornado only lasted for about five minutes traveling 1.6 miles before it lifted off near the Long Island Expressway.
A shed was destroyed and some homes had minor damage when shingles and siding were blown off.
Fortunately, nobody was hurt.
