Authorities Recover Body Of Missing Swimmer At Jersey Shore
TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities have recovered the body of a Slovakian woman who disappeared while swimming at the Jersey shore.
Two off-duty lifeguards found the body of 24-year-old Zuzana Oravcova in the surf line near East Shell Way in Toms River late Sunday.
Oravcova went missing early Sunday morning while swimming off the Jersey shore.
The exchange student, who was working at the boardwalk for the summer, was in the water with a friend near Point Pleasant Beach when three- to six-foot waves came crashing in. The friend was able to swim back to shore safely, but the woman did not return.
The Coast Guard searched for Oravcova, but those efforts were suspended Sunday evening.
The National Weather Service had issued a warning about dangerous rip currents along the Jersey shore over the weekend. Many towns had banned swimming at their beaches.
An autopsy is pending.
