Tom Seaver Not About To Lobby For Statue At Citi Field
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Tom Seaver says to his recollection, the New York Mets have never approached him about naming or erecting something at Citi Field in his honor.
There is, however, a "Seaver entrance" on the Plaza level of the ballpark. That's great, but how about an object befitting the greatest Mets player of all time?
Like, say, a statue?

"Throw it up there. They've gotta have some place to throw those tomatoes and eggs," Seaver joked Thursday on WFAN's "Boomer & Carton" show.
But co-host Boomer Esiason was serious. He's been calling for the Mets to commission a Seaver statue for some time; a tribute similar to the Stan Musial statue in St. Louis or the one for Willie Mays in San Francisco.
"That's for other people to do," said Seaver, who holds the record for the highest voting percentage in Hall of Fame history. "I understand that I'm part of the history of the game of baseball. It is going to be what it is. The wonderful thing are the memories that I have about the game, and I loved it. And I loved pitching."
Earlier Thursday, Esiason received a Seaver statue for his birthday from co-host Craig Carton.
Seaver also discussed the difference between pitchers of his era and the present day, his battle with Lyme disease, and admitted he doesn't watch any baseball games, though he's a "voracious" reader of box scores.
