Tom Brady 'Still Can't Watch Highlights' From Giants' Super Bowl Win
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The New England Patriots? Yeah, they're never counted out of the Super Bowl conversation.
Not with quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick running the show.
As for the Giants? Just two months ago, New York was a team in disarray. The run game was sputtering. Their secondary was giving up big play after big play.
But watch out, Brady. The Giants are playing like a team possessed, as displayed Sunday in San Francisco. Though the fact remains that no team has ever won a Super Bowl with a regular-season record as bad as Big Blue's 9-7.
"Honestly, I don't think you get to this point in the season without a certain degree of luck," Brady told WEEI radio Monday. "We've been in a lot of tough games all year. Some balls have bounced our way. You see the same thing from the Giants. They barely got into the postseason, and now look at them. They're playing their best football. It's just the way it is. Five, six weeks ago everyone was talking about really two teams, the Packers and the Saints."
The Giants, of course, ended the Patriots' bid for a perfect season in Super Bowl XLII.
Brady said they'll look at the Feb. 2008 game film "several times," but added that contest will have "absolutely zero impact" on this year's showdown in Indianapolis.
"I still can't watch highlights of that game, I think that's just the way it is," he said. "You get to the end, and we had a great opportunity there and really squandered it because we didn't play our very best."
Brady didn't exactly play his best Sunday against the Ravens either. But the Patriots, as they so often do, figured out a way to get it done and win the AFC Championship trophy.
So what are the chances Brady plays below his ability two games in a row?
Not so good.
Consider the Giants warned.
"We're going to work our butts off," said Brady. "Coach said last week, 'Put your blinders on and just focus on the target,' and our target is two weeks from yesterday."
