TLC Looks To Replace TVs With Tablets In Taxis
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Technology is becoming more difficult to escape, and the Taxi and Limousine Commission is talking about converting the TVs in the back of cabs to tablet computers.

Square, a San Francisco-based mobile payment company, is proposing installing iPads and other tablets in 50 cabs under a pilot program.
The tablet computers would allow riders to play computer games and swipe a credit card at any point in their trip.
Reaction on the program amongst New Yorkers is mixed.
Ed Puner told WCBS 880 reporters Peter Haskell that he finds the televisions "distracting and annoying" and also wouldn't use a tablet computer in a cab.
Larry Green, on the other hand, said it's a "great idea" and "great technology."

Manuel, a city cab driver for 24 years, said he doesn't know what drives him more nuts - passengers that never stop talking or the TVs that run a constant loop of infomercials.
"This thing is annoying all day long," he told 1010 WINS reporter Glenn Schuck of the plan. "I gotta listen to this thing time and time and again. Nobody likes it. None of my passengers like it."
Square is expected to make a formal presentation to the taxi commission next month.
