Tire Rack Street Survival Program On L.I. Teaches Teens How To Better Operate Vehicles
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - It's a course that every teenager should take, said Matthew Brod of the Tire Rack Street Survival program.
The Tire Rack Street Survival program -- which was held on Saturday -- is designed to teach teens how to maneuver their vehicles better. And by going through sand, they learn what to do in an emergency situation. They also take time to learn about braking.

"The biggest thing is that [teenage drivers] were never told that there's a finite limit to the amount of traction that they have, and that they can manage that traction by a varied set of skills," Brod told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "And it's all about muscle memory, that's the big thing. It's just like if you were to play tennis or golf."
Samantha Burn is 16 years old, and she said that it was her father who wanted her to come to this one-day course.
"I guess I'm really worried about other people on the road," Burn said, "because you can't get that type of experience in Drivers Ed or in lecture class."
