Times Square Valentine's Day Sculpture Made Of Boardwalk Planks Salvaged After Sandy
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Times Square is getting a jump-start on Valentine's Day.
Boardwalk planks salvaged from the Rockaways in Queens, Long Beach, L.I., Atlantic City, N.J. and Sea Girt, N.J. after Superstorm Sandy have been turned into hearts for a romantic public art installation. The planks are lit up with special red lights.
The design called "Heartwalk" is the work of Brooklyn-based design firm Situ Studio.

Lovers and singles alike can walk around the hearts or step inside to "stand in the heart of the world's greatest city."

"We were interested in creating a room within the city — a public space that was simultaneously interior and exterior," Situ Studio partner Bradley Samuels said in a statement. "Taking inspiration from the collective experience of Sandy, Heartwalk is a reflection on the things that bind us together, ephemeral and permanent."
The hearts will be on display through March 8.
