Officials Mark Spring Opening Of Times Square Pedestrian Plazas
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New pedestrian plazas in Times Square officially opened for spring on Wednesday.

The projects were completed last year. The new plazas and extended sidewalks add more than 100,000 square-feet of new pedestrian space to the area.
"This is a Times Square that is taking public space to the next level, not only in New York City, but also around the globe," council member Dan Garodnick said.
Architect Craig Dykers said the three-year project doubles the amount of space for pedestrians while "refining the Seventh Avenue roadway and adding a new bicycle lane."
New kiosks and upscale tables and chairs complete the new pedestrian plaza, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.
Officials plan to announce new programming for the spaces featuring public art, food and entertainment.
