New Jersey's Popular Tick Tock Diner Reopens With New Menu After Renovations
CLIFTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A popular North Jersey diner in business since the late 1940s has reopened after undergoing renovations.
The Tick Tock Diner off of Route 3 in Clifton is a popular stop for people from all over.
The iconic neon sign still sits atop, along with the motto "Eat heavy," like a Bat Signal to those looking for some greasy goodness. It's the kind of place people have been faithfully coming to and working at for decades.
Now, after shutting down for 10 weeks, it's got a new look inside, from the layout to the booths.
"Took down the old counter. We also renovated the bar, made it larger. We added a wine, a whiskey list. The kitchen got an overhaul. It's all new equipment," general manager Teddy Daniil told CBS2's Alice Gainer.
The menu also got a bit of a facelift.
"We took a lot of the classics and just put a fresh twist on them. They still have the old staples, where you can come in and load up on the calorie-rich foods, but then we also have a nod to more salads, healthier eating," chef Stephen Whittman said.
After getting a shout-out at the MetLife Stadium, they've also added "The Mick Jagger" for $10.95.
Video posted to Instagram shows Mick Jagger telling concertgoers back in August, "We went to the Tick Tock Diner for a Taylor ham, egg and cheese with disco fries and a sloppy joe to go."
"He went out in concert and he gave us a huge shout-out, so we felt like we had to take our Taylor egg-and-cheese sandwich, our pork roll sandwich, and it's called 'Mick Jagger,'" Daniil said.
As for the booth Mick Jagger sat in, it's been saved, stored in the basement all wrapped up. The owners say they may give it to a charity.

Customers are relieved the Tick Tock Diner is back open, praising its kid-friendly atmosphere and nice staff.
"For the past 20-some odd years, I used to come here," customer Glen Phillips said. "Went elsewhere [while it was closed], it wasn't as good."
Another man said he had been coming to the diner for probably 12 years.
If you want to try "The Mick Jagger" or some of the other new dishes, the diner is open 24/7.
