Thousands Mark 9/11 Anniversary At Point Lookout, L.I.
POINT LOOKOUT, NY (1010 WINS) -- Thousands of people marked the 10th anniversary of 9/11 at Point Lookout on Long Island.

Nearly 500 Long Islanders were among the victims when the towers fell on Sept. 11, 2001. More than 2,000 friends and family members of those victims attended the Point Lookout ceremony Sunday morning.
Hempstead town supervisor Kate Murray led the services.
"We're here at the beach and the ceremony has been at the beach every single year because this is where people went to spontaneously on that terrible day," she said. "And they looked westward at the burning towers."
On the beach was a chrome replica of the Twin Towers next to a 30-foot steel beam from the World Trade Center.
"It's beautiful. We come every year and every year it's gotten bigger and bigger," said Joyce Noonan, whose cousin was a firefighter who died on 9/11.
As part of the ceremony, doves were released into the early morning sky. There were also songs and readings and a moment of silence.
