Thousands Of Beachgoers Head To Coney Island To Officially Begin Their Summer
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - New rides, a polished-up boardwalk and gorgeous sands and surf are bringing thousands to Coney Island to start their summer.
"It's a gorgeous day and the beach is clean," one woman, who was looking very relaxed in her beach chair, told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck. "If you have to be in any part of the five boroughs today, I'd say be either at Coney Island or Rockaway [Beach]. It has the ability to bring some joy."

Another woman, visiting from Kentucky for the very first time with her family, was thrilled to be at Coney Island on Saturday morning.
"It's awesome!" she exclaimed. "We found a horseshoe crab just down underneath the pier. One of my girls just said, 'It's the best day ever,' and it's only, what, 8:00 in the morning? So if that's any indication of what it's going to be like today, I think it will be fun."
Beachgoers certainly seem ready to make summer memories that only this wonderful landmark can provide.
