Third Man Charged In Beating Death Of Day Laborer In Mount Kisco
MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A third suspect was charged Friday in the beating death of a homeless day laborer in Mount Kisco this past weekend.
Mario Coronado-Depaz, 39, was arrested in Mount Kisco at 6 p.m. Friday and has been charged with first-degree manslaughter in the death of Jose Sanchez, police said.
He was set to be arraigned Friday night in Mount Kisco Justice Court.
Freddy Coronado-Mendez, 32, and Milton Ventura, 35, were charged earlier in the week charged with first-degree manslaughter. Police believe they got into a fight with Sanchez. Police recovered a piece of wood they believe was used as a weapon in the crime.
At a nearby bodega, behind a collection box for the victim's funeral, a man who identified himself only as "Andres" told Murnane that Sanchez, a Honduran immigrant, worked landscaping jobs in the area and seemed to be living in the woods where he died.
"Good guy, but I don't know what happened," Andres said.
Suspect Coronado-Mendez left the area by train after Sanchez's slaying, and was tracked by Westchester County detectives to Harrison, New Jersey where he was arrested Monday, police said. He was being held at the Hudson County, New Jersey Jail and was set to be arraigned on Monday of next week.
It was believed that Coronado-Mendez was trying to leave the region, police said.
Ventura was arrested Tuesday night and was being held without bail at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla, police said.
Coronado-Mendez, who is from Guatemala, has already been deported twice, police said. He has a criminal record, including an arrest on an assault charge.
Ventura, also from Guatemala, was deported once before.
The situation has left a weariness in the voice of Mayor Michael Cindrich.
"It's a tragedy that the federal government has failed to address, and we do our part," he told Murnane.
Coronado-Depaz is Coronado-Mendez's half-brother, police said.
