The Bronx Hopes To Be NYC's Next Beer Hot Spot As Beer Week Kicks Off
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - When Rheingold shut down its brewery in the 1960s, the Bronx became a beer wasteland.
That was until a few years ago when the Bronx Brewery and Jonas Bronck's Beer Co. set up shop.
Now another one is joining them off the mainland.

"Everything is local. People want local products," said mechanical engineer Paul Sciara, who co-founded the City Island Beer Company on the island known for its ship-building history. "There's a growing demand for better beer, craft beer in the area."

"We're just looking to bring in a different type of craftsmanship to City Island and the area," he told WCBS 880 reporter Alex Silverman. "We drew a lot of inspiration from the community and City Island has a rich history."
His pale ale debuts tonight as New York City Beer Week kicks off in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

Right now, it's brewed in Massachusetts.
"Our plan is that in a year or two years to establish the brand to build our own brewery on City Island," Sciara said.
They will, of course, use famous New York City water.
