Thanksgiving weather forecast calls for rain around NYC. Here's an hour-by-hour timeline for the parade.
NEW YORK -- Thanksgiving is a day away, but will the weather cooperate for the parade and holiday travel plans?
Thursday will be a First Alert Weather Day as steady rain, wind and cooler temperatures arrive.
Places north and west of New York City may also see some snow.
A winter storm warning is in effect in western Ulster County from 1 a.m. Thursday until 1 p.m. Friday, and a winter weather advisory is currently effect in Sullivan County and expires at 10 p.m. Thursday.
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade forecast
You'll want a rain coat or poncho for the parade, and perhaps some foot warmers, as temperatures will be stuck in the 40s.
- 8 a.m. 90% chance of rain, high of 48
- 9 a.m. 100% chance of rain, high of 48
- 10 a.m. 100% chance of rain, high of 48
- 11 a.m. 100% chance of rain, high of 50
- 12 p.m. 90% chance of rain, high of 50
The storm won't be too much of a wind maker, with wind gusts only reaching up to around 20 mph, ensuring that all the balloons will fly safely during the parade.
Thanksgiving evening and Black Friday forecast
While the rain will start to taper off by the late afternoon hours, the forecast, in a nutshell, is a wet and dreary Thanksgiving. Rainfall totals regionwide are anticipated to be between .5-1 inches – something to be thankful for, amid the ongoing drought.
Winds will turn gusty as the storm departs.
As for high temperatures, just like the food served for Thanksgiving dinner, they'll have a wide variety, ranging from the 50s along the coast to the upper 30s in the northwestern suburbs. Central Park will be right in the middle at 50.
Meanwhile, in Sullivan and Ulster counties, snow will be falling, and it may accumulate up to 10 inches in a few spots. Within those two counties, average final totals are likely to range between 2-6 inches, though.
This messy mix of precipitation should clear out around 5 p.m.
As for Black Friday, it will be generally dry — just a 20% chance of snow and rain showers — but chilly, with highs in the 40s.
