Test Blast Set For Friday Near Tappan Zee Bridge
NYACK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Residents who live near the Tappan Zee Bridge may hear an explosion Friday morning.
A one-time detonation will be set off near the Rockland County shore between 10 a.m. and noon. The explosion will create a vibration to measure soil stability of the Hudson River bed.
The test is part of preliminary work for the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement project.
Since work on the project began, residents on both sides of the Hudson have been upset over the amount of noise the construction has generated.
During Friday's soil blast test, traffic on the bridge will not be affected but officials say marine traffic on the Hudson will be stopped within a 500-foot buffer zone of the blast.
