Collins spoke briefly about the new beginnings for the Mets as the black cloud of Bernie Madoff is starting to disappear from the franchise.
The Mets' manager spoke about the statuses of Johan Santana, Ruben Tejada, the Mets' rotational strength, patchwork bullpen and other burning topics.
Collins revealed his belief in Jon Niese having a huge upside and an array of pitches. "My feeling is that there's guys that maybe throw harder but there's nobody that's got a combination of three pitches like this guy," Collins told Francesa on-air.
Niese has enjoyed a tremendous spring and a big part of the Mets' current and long-term plans.
A big question is what Jason Bay can offer in 2012 but Collins has faith in his left-fielder. "I think he's got great confidence right now," Collins stated.
