Police: Man Tried To Sexually Assault Girl, 16, In Tenafly, N.J.
TENAFLY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities on Wednesday released a sketch of a suspect who tried to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl in Tenafly, New Jersey.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's office said the girl was riding NJ TRANSIT bus 166T on Saturday evening, and the suspect tried to chat her up, but she ignored him.
The girl got off the bus on Westervelt Avenue in Tenafly, and noticed the suspect following her, prosecutors said.
As the girl walked down Westervelt Avenue, the suspect attacked her from behind and tried to sexually assault her, prosecutors said.
The suspect ran off shortly afterward, prosecutors said.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 25 and 30, with a light beard, standing 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall. The suspect has a muscular build and is estimated to weigh about 200 pounds, prosecutors said.
At the time of the attack, the suspect was wearing a baseball hat with a rounded brim, a tight teal or blue shirt, and light-colored shorts, prosecutors said. He spoke English with a Hispanic accent, prosecutors said.
The incident was believed to be isolated, but Tenafly police asked patrols to focus their attention on major bus routes after the incident, prosecutors said.
